Quentin McCorvey Sr. Vice President, Corporate Diversity Strategies and Programs, Key Corp

Quentin McCorvey  is an administrator, strategist, and community leader with wide range of experiences in   governmental, healthcare, and nonprofit sectors. Quentin earned a BA in Political Science from Jackson State University and a Masters Degree in Public Administration Program from Cleveland State University in June 1997.  Currently, Quentin serves as the Senior Vice President of Corporate Diversity Strategies and Programs with KeyBank where he is responsible for advancing corporate diversity and human capital efforts across the company. In his role, he leads the research, benchmarking and strategy development for hiring, promotion and retention activities.

Quentin was inducted into the Crain’s Cleveland Business Magazine 40 under 40 Club in 2002 and Kaleidoscope Magazine’s Forty/Forty Club Class of 2003.  He has served on Nominating Panel for the Cleveland Metropolitan School District school board and was a founding member of Cleveland Bridge Builders and a graduate of the 2002 leadership classes of both Cleveland Bridge Builders and Leadership Ohio. He was also a 1996 graduate of the United Way Leadership Development Program.

His current civic involvement includes serving as Chairman of the City of Cleveland/Cuyahoga County Workforce Investment Board and in Vice Chair roles with The First Tee of Akron and Suite 1300 of the Cleveland Foundation.  Quentin is also a board member of Cleveland Development Advisors, Knoxville College, the Cleveland Leadership Center and Leadership Ohio. He is a member of the committee of trustees for ideastream, a member of the National Advisory Board for the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center, and a member of the Cleveland State University Athletic Visiting Committee.

A proud member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc, Quentin is an ordained deacon at Providence Baptist Church in Cleveland, Ohio.  Quentin loves spending time speaking with and lecturing to youth groups and is married to Kelli and they have two boys, Quentin Jr., age 14 and Kyle, age 10.

Kathleen Blake Former Executive Director, Clinton County Leadership Institute

Kathleen served as Executive Director of the Clinton County Leadership Institute from 1991 through 2009. Highlights of her years of community leadership development include creation of the Community Leader Asessment Center with The Ohio State University Extension and Department of Education; Southwest Ohio Regional Leadership Day, the annual Leaders’, Leprechauns & Gold Gala and the Leadership Clinton Youth Collaborative. Kathleen enjoys program directors’ networking events and conferences because they offer a glimpse of so many wonderfully innovative ideas and projects that can be borrowed and refined to fit one’s own community.

A native of Berkeley, California, Kathleen enjoys reading, writing, and military space-available travels with husband John. They have six grown children and families spread across the country from Columbus to Colorado, Washington and California.

Seth P. Briskin Co-Founder, Cleveland Bridgebuilders

Seth is a Partner at Myers, Roman, Friedberg and Lewis in Cleveland, Ohio. He provides labor and employment counsel to private, public sector and non-profit organizations, representing employers and executives in a variety of services and litigation regarding employment and consulting contracts wage and hour matters, non-competition and trade secret litigation, workers’ compensation claims/appeals, union organizing drives, collective bargaining, labor arbitrations and all manner of disputes involving the NLRB, OSHA, EEOC, OCRC, BWC and the Department of Labor. Seth interned for the National Labor Relations Board, Cleveland, Ohio, practiced at boutique and general practice law firms where he developed his experience in labor and employment law and has been consistently named an Ohio “Super Lawyer” and was awarded Crain’s Cleveland Business “40 Under 40” in 2005. He is admitted to practice before all Ohio state courts, as well as the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit and the U.S. District Courts in the Northern and Southern Districts of Ohio A graduate of Cornell University, School of Industrial and Labor Relations, and a J.D. from Case Western Reserve School of Law, Seth is a member of Ohio State and Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Associations, and officer on the Executive Boards of the Cleveland Leadership Center, American Jewish Committee, Beachwood Chamber of Commerce and the Cleveland Jewish News and former Chairman of Cleveland Bridge Builders. He frequently speaks on labor and employment law issues. 

Karen Claxton Executive Director, Leadership Portage County

Karen has served as the Founding Executive Director of Leadership Portage County for the past 20 years, and Youth Leadership Portage County for 10 years. She has a passion for enriching the lives of children. As a volunteer, she planned, developed and implemented the Children’s Advocacy Center of Portage County, the county’s only child abuse center and served a three year term on the Governor’s Task Force for the Investigation and Prosecution of Child Abuse to help develop state-wide child abuse protocols. She has served on several non-profit boards, including the Boys and Girls Club of Portage County, past president of the Portage County Educational Services Center Business Advisory Board; and Community Action Council. She is a member of the Northeast Ohio Regional Leadership Task Force. She has co-taught classes at Kent State University on leadership, nominal group technique and consensus building. She also makes numerous presentations to many local service clubs on leadership inspired topics. She also assists groups with strategic planning, goal and mission development through out Ohio. She holds a bachelors degree from Kent State University. 

Suzanne Fleming Former Executive Director Leadership Mahoning Valley and the Northeast Ohio Leadership Consortium

Suzanne is retired from Youngstown State University’s Center for Human Services Development where she served as the coordinator of the Northeast Ohio Regional Leadership Taskforce from 1998-2008. At YSU she was also a research associate and assisted area government and non-profit organizations with leadership development and strategic planning. She previously served as a grad assistant at Kent State’s Center for Public Policy and Public Administration from 1995-1997.

Fleming served as executive director of Leadership Youngstown, Leadership Warren and Leadership Mahoning Valley from 1986-1995. From 1973-1987 she worked as an RN in surgical intensive care at Southside Medical Center. Fleming attended Georgetown University as a nursing major and graduated from YSU with an AAS in Nursing in 1973. She earned a BS in Sociology from YSU and an MPA from Kent State.

She currently serves on the boards of the Wean Foundation, Mahoning Valley Historical Society, Humility of Mary Health Partners, the Rotary Club of Youngstown and the Youngstown Neighborhood Development Corporation. She is a past president of the Junior League of Youngstown. Suzanne is married to Al Fleming, an attorney, and they are the parents of two children and grandparents of three. They are members of St. Edward Parish and residents of the city of Youngstown.

Christine D. Johnson Executive Director Leadership Louisville

Christine has been president of the Leadership Louisville Center since 1991. She is also a 1987 Leadership Louisville graduate. More than 5,000 individuals have graduated from Leadership Louisville programs since its founding in 1979. As president, Chris directs the four Leadership Louisville Center programs: Leadership Louisville, the signature program for senior leaders; Focus Louisville, a 2 1/2-day community orientation with an emphasis on volunteer service; The Bingham Fellows, a graduate level program that provides an advanced leadership experience on a specific community issue; and Ignite Louisville, a skill building leadership course for young professionals. In 2009, the Leadership Louisville Center was awarded the Pyramid Award for Collaboration from the Center for Nonprofit Excellence for Ignite Louisville’s community service challenge

The Leadership Louisville Center celebrated its 30th Anniversary in 2009 under the skilled leadership of Chris Johnson. An initiative called the Leadership Louisville Connector Project is leading the organization into its next 30 years and has generated extraordinary attention in the community. Chris was one of 128 individuals recognized as Leadership Louisville’s Connectors.

Chris was named by Louisville Magazine as one of the city’s 15 most powerful women in 2007. She was also recently installed into the Presbyterian Community Center’s Hall of Fame. In 2006 she received the Chairman’s Award by the national Community Leadership Association for her success in creating the Leadership Louisville Center. Chris is active in several community organizations, serving on the boards of the Greater Louisville Inc., the advisory board of Young Professionals Association of Louisville (YPAL) and Actors Theatre of Louisville’s development board. In 1996 she was recognized as a Woman of Achievement by the Kentuckiana Girl Scout Council. In 1995 Chris received the Preceptor Award as one of the five outstanding program directors by The Community Leadership Association. She also served as CLA board chair in 2000-01.

Before joining the Leadership Louisville staff in 1990, Chris was an executive with Kentucky’s largest public relations firm. She is a graduate of Murray State University. She began her professional career as the first woman sports reporter for The Courier-Journal. Chris is married to John A. Johnson, an attorney. Chris and John enjoy spending weekends at their Western Kentucky farm, which has been in the Johnson family for more than 100 years. 

Laura E. Jones Executive Director Ashtabula

Laura became the Executive Director of LEADERship Ashtabula County after several years in the corporate insurance field. She has been a Commercial Sales Executive with Huntington Insurance in Ashtabula and Cleveland, and during that time has made community involvement a way of life. Laura is a graduate of Case Western Reserve University with a B.A. in English, with minors in Sociology and Greek Classics.

Laura is currently a Board Member for United Way of Ashtabula County, and has served as an account executive and community investment volunteer, and is the Co-Chair of the2009-2010 United Way campaign. Laura has facilitated educational programs for the Ashtabula County Red Cross designed for elementary students, has been active in corporate diversity development, and has also chaired several major community revitalization and sustainability projects in the northeastern Ohio region. Laura is a graduate of the 2008 LEADERship class, and has served as a board member and on the YOUth LEADERship steering committee as well. Laura lives in Ashtabula County with Mark Jones and their 1 year old son Christian Richard.

Sherri Krazl Executive Director Leadership Clinton County

Sherri is a 20-year resident of Clinton County (Wilmington and Blanchester), Ohio, and became Executive Director of Leadership Clinton in January of 2010. Sherri previously served as Communications Manager for the institute and completed the program in 2008. Sherry graduated from Wilmington College with a B.A. in Communications and Marketing. For the past 10 years she has taught communications courses as an adjunct at her alma matter. She has served on the boards of Cincinnati’s International Association of Business Communicators (IABC), Habitat for Humanity, Relay for Life, and was a charter member of Wilmington’s Toastmasters. A winner of multiple IABC Quill awards, her highest award achievement was in 2006 when she won a Gold Quill international award of excellence for her work in corporate branding for her employer of 13 years, ABX Air, Inc. She has over 20 years of experience in Marketing Communications and is an early adopter of tools and techniques that aid in communicating with a strategic multi-media approach. Krazl enjoys helping others sift through the social media jungle and focus on the basics of new media. Sherri lives for time with her family and enjoys animals specifically dogs and horses and loves the outdoors, traveling, photography, and graphic design/computer work. Sherri and her husband David have a young daughter, Makayla. 

Laurie Marsh Executive Director Leadership Columbus

Laura Laurie Marsh has been the Executive Director of Leadership Columbus since l991. She has a degree in journalism from Ohio State University. She also has extensive training in group process and facilitation skills from the National Community Leadership Association and the Ohio Prevention Institute. Laurie’s career has spanned positions in the fields of journalism, advertising, education and human services. She spent 5 years with a United Way agency that delivered alcoholism and drug addiction education and prevention services in Franklin County. She gained credentialing as a Chemical Dependency Prevention Consultant and worked with youth in Franklin County and surrounding counties as part of the Teen Institutes and Youth to Youth activities. She also served as Executive Director of the Shepherd Hill Foundation, the fundraising arm for Shepherd Hill Hospital. Laurie has served in numerous community trusteeship positions throughout her career. She is a past board member of the national Community Leadership Association Board; past president of the National Assault Prevention Center; board member for the Franklin County ADAMH Board; the Community Shelter Board, and is past president the Old Beechwold Association, her neighborhood association. Facilitation courses she has completed include Board Governance facilitation, and the Shambhala Institute in Nova Scotia where she learned the skills necessary for the “Art of Hosting Conversations that Matter”. She has practiced and taught the skills necessary for the Art of Storytelling. Laurie recently completed her term as officer of the board of the Thurber House, a literary center and museum located in the boyhood home of author and cartoonist James Thurber. She is currently a board member of the Capital Area Humane Society and a member of the Columbus Metropolitan Club and the Community Leadership Association. Laurie is married to Ty Marsh, President and CEO of the Columbus Chamber of Commerce. They live in Old Beechwold (Clintonville) with dog Audrey and cat, Mozart.

Andy McCreanor Executive Director Clermont 20/20

Andy is a 35 year career banking professional with an extensive background in strategic planning, general management, customer relations, product development, retail delivery, and marketing. Skilled at transition and integration processes, Andy has a successful track record of launching new business lines and implementing strategic initiatives. After retiring from banking in June 2007, he founded ONWARD! Services LLC providing consulting services to businesses concerning strategic planning and marketing services, and also works with non-profits interested in developing social enterprises and innovative concepts. Andy speaks on economic and community development topics and social entrepreneurship from a private sector perspective. He has participated as a speaker and facilitator at social enterprise workshops for the Health Foundation of Greater Cincinnati. Andy is also the Executive Director of Clermont 20/20; Inc. a community based leadership and citizenship non-profit organization, which offers services and programs on leadership, college and career readiness for high school students, mentoring, and community environmental initiatives. Clermont 20/20 mission is focused on developing and engaging leaders from all sectors in Clermont County for the purpose of providing indisputable opportunity and a sustainable future for people.

Andy is active in community leadership and currently serves as Chairman of the Clermont Chamber of Commerce, secretary-treasurer of the Economic Development Corp. of Clermont County, board member of the Ohio College Access Network, the Business Advisory Committee at University of Cincinnati Clermont College, board member Workforce One of Southwestern Ohio, and Chairman of the Citizens Advisory Panel for Agenda 360.

He holds a B.A. Business Management from Wilmington College and attended the University of Cincinnati – Clermont College. He holds certificates from the American Bankers School of Retail Credit, at University of Colorado, and is a graduate of the American Institute of Banking, Retail Banking and Organizational Management.

Andy is a leadership graduate of Lead Clermont (1997) and Leadership Clinton (1991) and is a past recipient of the Distinguished Leadership Award from the National Association for Community Leadership and the Outstanding Community Leadership Award presented by the Ohio Leadership Conference.

Scott Read Co-Founder Torchbearers (Akron)

Scott is the co-founder of Torchbearers, an organization that identifies Greater Akron’s future leaders, develops their skills and connects them to the area’s established leadership. He is the President of Dunholt Medical, which designs and manufactures surgical tables. A graduate of the University of Akron and the Case Western Reserve University School of Law, he resides in Akron with his wife, Kimberly, and sons, Garrett and Brandon. 

Mark Scheffler Executive Director Leadership Akron

Mark became the Executive Director of Leadership Akron in 2005. Together with staff, board, and alumni, Mark leads efforts to strengthen the organization and its flagship Leadership Akron program. Recent highlights include the launch of insight:AKRON, a program for new executives; and a collaboration with Torchbearers to help develop young leaders. And in 2009, Leadership Akron completed a two-year, $500,000 endowment campaign leading up to a successful 25th Anniversary Celebration.

Before joining Leadership Akron, Mark served on staff at Summit Education Initiative. A graduate of Grove City College, he received a Master of Public Administration from Ohio State University. He is a board member of the Association of Leadership Professionals, a national organization for groups like Leadership Akron. He also serves on the board of the Akron Roundtable, and volunteers for the Bridgestone Championships. Past board service includes Torchbearers, the Association of Fundraising Professionals, and A.M. Akron Toastmasters. He was a charter honoree of the Greater Akron Chamber’s 30 for the Future awards, and now serves on the judging committee. Mark and his wife Bethany have two young daughters, Jordan and Daniela.

Eric Smith Jr. Program Co-Chair, Leadership Akron

Eric is the Director of Transportation for the URS Akron Office and is responsible for all aspects of the transportation business line in Northern Ohio including planning, engineering and design. In that capacity, he has primary responsibility for business development, client relations, productivity and overall operations of the transportation business line, with a staff of 80 professional engineers, planners and technicians.

Eric also leads the transportation planning efforts of the URS Akron Office. As Principal Transportation Planner, he provides guidance to clients in overall transportation project development issues including project programming, identification of funding mechanisms, environmental clearance issues, right-of-way needs, design issues and public involvement. He has extensive public involvement experience and is an accomplished presenter at public forums. In addition to his management and transportation planning functions, Eric serves as the Traffic Engineering Practice Leader in Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana and Michigan for URS. In that capacity, he coordinates all the traffic engineering efforts of URS in that region, including business pursuits, workload balancing, technical development and strategic initiatives. He also served as Professor of Engineering at the University Of Akron Graduate School Of Engineering.

His previous experience includes serving as Traffic Impact Studies Engineer, Connecticut Department of Transportation, Wethersfield, Traffic Engineer, Wilbur Smith Associates, Richmond, Virginia, and Traffic Engineering Consultant, URS – Akron, Ohio. In 1991, Eric also prepared the Guam 2010 Highway Master Plan a comprehensive traffic analysis and transportation plan for a 645 acre tourist/commercial/residential area of the island while stationed in Guam.

Marta King Stone Former Executive Director Leadership Ashtabula

Marta served as Executive Director of Leadership Ashtabula County, Inc. from its inception in 1988 until December 2009. She received a MS in Organizational Development and Analysis from the Weatherhead School of Business at Case Western Reserve University in 1999. A focus of her work has been with change initiatives for many organizations and local governments in NE Ohio. She lives on 25 secluded acres along the scenic Grand River with her husband Mike, has two grown children Abby and Ted, and two wonderful grandsons. Marta serves on the board of trustees for Partnership for Education in Ashtabula County and The Western Reserve Land Conservancy. She is also an adjunct faculty member at the Ashtabula campus of Kent State University.

Gail Stumphauzer Executive Director Leadership Lorain

Gail is the CEO of Leadership Lorain County, an organization whose mission is to foster life long leaders who serve as catalysts for positive change. The primary programs of Leadership Lorain County are the Signature Leadership Program and Community Outreach Programs that include a Summer Internship Program for college students, Youth Academies based in the high schools and Board Training and Placement services. In addition, the organization hosts numerous networking and educational events for its 800 + alumni and actively works to connect them with community needs.

In the twelve years that Gail has been leading the organization, the budget has quadrupled and reliance on grant funding has been reduced to 3%. The endowment has doubled and classes continue to grow. Gail received the 2003 Preceptor Award from the Community Leadership Association and the Crain’s Woman of Note Award in 2006.

Gail lives out the mission of Leadership Lorain County by serving her community. She is on the Board of Trustees for Community Health Partners, Common Ground, and the Elyria Rotary Club. She also serves on the Lorain County Community College Institutional Review Board and the advisory committee of the College’s Public Service Program. 

Micki Vollmer Executive Director Allen Lima Leadership

Micki is the Executive Director of the Allen Lima Leadership (ALL) Program. Micki came to Lima in December of 1994 as the Development Coordinator for the West Central Ohio Regional Development Board. She became Executive Director of ALL in September 1996 and has graduated over 550 adults in the ALL Program and over 400 in the ALL Youth Leadership Program. Prior to that Micki spent ten years as the Tournament Director of the Jamie Farr Toledo Classic, a Ladies Professional Golf Tournament. She is also a music educator and a graduate of The Defiance College in Defiance, Ohio with a Bachelor of Science in Comprehensive Music. Micki is a graduate of Leadership Ohio and she also attended Bowling Green State University and The University of Toledo in Business Management. She is a graduate of the Allen County Leadership Academy. Micki is Past President of the Lima Rotary Club and is currently serving as the Assistant Governor of Rotary District 6600. She serves as Secretary and Past Chair of the Board of Trustees of James A. Rhodes State College. She is also a member of the Ohio Association of Community Colleges where she is chair of the Trustee Engagement & Leadership Committee. Micki is past Vice Chair of Leadership Ohio. She has also served on the steering committee for the Celebrate Community Diversity Workshops. Micki’s other interests include being a church Organist, a golfer and past curler at the Bowling Green State University ice arena where she and her husband Bob became avid curlers and became State, Regional and National Champions. Micki and her husband Bob are National Mixed Curling Champions. Micki has also served as U.S. Ambassador to represent the United States Women’s Curling Association as a competitor in the USCA Tour of Scotland. She is involved in a variety of other community activities too numerous to mention.

     Virginia Purdy Former Executive Director, Highland County Leadership

Virginia Purdy’s varied work experiences included the titles Executive Director of Highland County            Leadership program and Co-Executive Director of the Clinton County Leadership program.  She spent 15 years as President and General Manager of WRAC radio in West Union, Ohio of which she says “The fun part of the job was doing a call in talk show for an hour a day five days a week. “  Her career has also included teaching junior high, college and adult classes.

Virginia has always been active in the communities where she has lived, serving as a member of many community boards and organizations.  She spent four years as an elected member of the Ohio State Board of Education, serving two years as president.  As her final career move she became a financial advisor with Edward Jones in order to help people with their monetary planning.

Virginia is the third generation to own the family farm in Leesburg.  She has three daughters and four            grandchildren.
